Photography

When I'm not designing, I take photographs. A slow habit: light, texture, and people who aren't looking at the camera. Same job as the rest of this site, really: deciding what to keep.

21 frames, and I'll admit the pattern without being asked. Most of them are the same twenty minutes after sunset, taken from whatever roof or window I happened to be near. The titles are mine. They are not descriptions.

  • A bare twilight sky graded from deep blue at the top to pink at the horizon, with a thin crescent moon and one low wisp of cloud.
  • An abandoned turquoise flatbed truck with a canvas canopy, parked in an overgrown field beside a road under a pink and orange sunset.
  • An empty roadside stall built from raw timber under a green tarpaulin, standing in tall grass with mountains behind it at dusk.
  • A full moon low in a lilac sky behind the pitched roofs and balconies of a row of apartment buildings.
  • A clear deep blue sky with a slim crescent moon and a few thin clouds catching the last light.
  • A city skyline at dusk under magenta cloud, with unfinished high-rise towers on the left and a mountain ridge behind.
  • A cove seen from above: turquoise water over pale rock, wooded cliffs, a small boat, and a road switchbacking down to the shore.
  • A wide band of dusk sky grading from blue to amber, holding a crescent moon and a single bright planet.
  • A dense field of stars across a near-black sky, with no horizon in the frame.
  • A crescent moon over a dark mountain ridge, under a magenta band of sky, with a tower block and tiled rooftops in the foreground.
  • Rooftops of a hillside town in violet haze, with an orange strip of afterglow along the horizon behind them.
  • Skopje at dusk from a hillside: lit streets and buildings below, Mount Vodno on the horizon, tree canopy across the bottom of the frame.
  • A night market at sunset: white peaked tents, people between the stalls, and a single lit bulb hanging from a wire across the top of the frame.
  • The same view over Skopje earlier in the evening, the sky still blue, the city lights just coming on below Mount Vodno.
  • Rooftops in near-darkness under a deep blue sky, a faint crescent moon low over the hills and a few lit windows.
  • A bright moon high over a city at night, with a lit avenue running between blocks of flats toward distant hills.
  • An orange sky over low rooftops, with a pair of pale high-rise towers standing against the mountains.
  • A gilded tray of tulip-shaped tea glasses and lidded sugar bowls on a wooden table, lit warm against red curtains and white sheers.
  • A beach in full daylight: dune grass on the sand, a timber beach bar on the rise above it, thatched parasols and a clear blue sky.
  • A grand neoclassical building with domed corners and arched windows, photographed from across the street at sunset as two cyclists pass.
  • A tower crane beside an unfinished high-rise, both dark against lavender and pink cloud.
